The collection is arranged in chronological order and consists of: a letter, 1910 Feb. 14, from Heckel in his function as the acting manager of the Brücke to the Museum Essen, inquiring about the possibility of sending a Brücke exhibition from the Folkwang Museum, Hagen, to Essen. Letters to Martin Gosebruch, 1919-1949 include: a letter, 1919 July 8, mentioning a visit to Munich and to Franz Marc's widow and commenting on Gosebruch's purchase of Heckel's painting "Die Badende" and on the painters personal situation; a fragmentary letter, 1945 Nov. 4, detailing the fate of Heckel's friends and Heckels's paintings in various collections; three letters, 1946 April 14 and 1949, commenting on cultural tendencies and renewed exhibition activities and the public reception of these exhibitions as well as on various publication projects. Collection also includes a short statement of receipt, ca. 1956, to Fritz Schweighofer, and a letter to a Mr. Hoffmann, 1957 May 6, concerning Heckel's painting "Prerowstrom" (1911); in connection with the preparation of a catalogue raisonne the artist inquires if Hoffmann still owns the painting and if it is also painted on the verso.
